Scripture: D’varim (Deut) 29:13-20 when he hears this.

 

SYNOPSIS: Deu 29:17 So let there not be among you a man, woman, family or tribe whose heart turns away today from YEHOVAH our God to go and serve the gods of those nations. Let there not be among you a root bearing such bitter poison and wormwood. Our biggest problem is not political or economic it is all moral. We have drifted from the virtues that make liberty possible in the first place…freedom. To be free you have to have discipline, you have to faith, you have to have character. If you don’t have those things…Laws will mean nothing, and then the government will grow weak or oppressive. On the outside we look ok. On the inside we are filled with dead person’s bones. 

 

 

D’varim (Deut) 29:13-20 when he hears this.

Deu 29:13  "But I am not making this covenant and this oath only with you. 

Deu 29:14  Rather, I am making it both with him who is standing here with us today before YEHOVAH our God and also with him who is not here with us today. 

Deu 29:15  For you know how we lived in the land of Egypt and how we came directly through the nations you passed through; 

Deu 29:16  and you saw their detestable things and their idols of wood, stone, silver and gold that they had with them. 

Deu 29:17  So let there not be among you a man, woman, family or tribe whose heart turns away today from YEHOVAH our God to go and serve the gods of those nations. Let there not be among you a root bearing such bitter poison and wormwood. 

Deu 29:18  If there is such a person, when he hears the words of this curse, he will bless himself secretly, saying to himself, 'I will be all right, even though I will stubbornly keep doing whatever I feel like doing; so that I, although "dry," [sinful,] will be added to the "watered" [righteous].' 

Deu 29:19  But YEHOVAH will not forgive him. Rather, the anger and jealousy of YEHOVAH will blaze up against that person. Every curse written in this book will be upon him. YEHOVAH will blot out his name from under heaven. 

Deu 29:20  YEHOVAH will single him out from all the tribes of Isra'el to experience what is bad in all the curses of the covenant written in this book of the Torah.

Deu 29:18  so that there will not be among you a man or woman, or family or tribe, whose heart turns away today from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of those nations; that there will not be among you a root bearing poisonous fruit and wormwood. 

 

FRUIT: H6509 פּרה pârâh BDB Definition: to bear fruit, be fruitful, branch off

 

LOFR: Gen 1:22 Then God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful, multiply and fill the water of the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."

Deu 4:1  "Now, Isra'el, listen to the laws and rulings I am teaching you, in order to follow them, so that you will live; then you will go in and take possession of the land that YEHOVAH, the God of your fathers, is giving you. Deu 4:2  In order to obey the mitzvot of YEHOVAH your God which I am giving you, do not add to what I am saying, and do not subtract from it.

POISON: H7219 רושׁ / ראשׁ rô'sh / rôsh BDB Definition: gall, venom, bitter, poisonous

WORMWOOD: H3939 לענה la‛ănâh BDB Definition: wormwood, a poisonous herb

 

Ref. Jer_9:14  therefore," says YEHOVAH-Tzva'ot, the God of Isra'el: "I will feed this people bitter wormwood and give them poisonous water to drink.

 

Deu 29:18  If there is such a person, when he hears the words of this curse, he will bless himself secretly, saying to himself, 'I will be all right, even though I will stubbornly keep doing whatever I feel like doing; so that I, although "dry," [sinful,] will be added to the "watered" [righteous].' 

 

NASB: Deu 29:19 "It shall be when he hears the words of this curse, that he will boast, saying, 'I have peace though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart in order to destroy the watered land with the dry.' 

 

STUBBORNLY/STUBBORNNESS: H8307 שׁרירוּת sherı̂yrûth BDB Definition: stubbornness, hardness, firmness

 

PEACE: H7965 שׁלם / שׁלום shâlôm BDB Definition: 1) completeness, soundness, welfare, peace 2) safety, soundness (in body) 3) peace, health, prosperity 4) peace, quiet, tranquility, contentment 5) peace, friendship, of human relationships 6) with God especially in covenant relationship 7) peace (from war)

 

NASB: Deu 29:19 "It shall be when he hears the words of this curse, that he will boast, saying, 'I have peace though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart in order to destroy the watered land with the dry.'

Mattiyahu (Mat) 23:27-28 Dead men’s bones.

Mat 23:27  "Woe to you hypocritical Torah-teachers and P'rushim! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look fine on the outside but inside are full of dead people's bones and all kinds of rottenness. 

Mat 23:28  Likewise, you appear to people from the outside to be good and honest, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and far from Torah.

Mat 12:43  "When an unclean spirit comes out of a person, it travels through dry country seeking rest and does not find it. 

Mat 12:44  Then it says to itself, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house standing empty, swept clean and put in order. 

Mat 12:45  Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they come and live there—so that in the end, the person is worse off than he was before. This is how it will be for this wicked generation."
